- Volunteers donated 13,000 hours to Global Gifts last year!

Karen Hahn.

When studying in Ecuador during my undergrad, I was struck by the vast economic differences. Fair trade is a way for me to continue to support individuals from around the world. Global Gifts brings the global community into our local towns and offers an opportunity to give back everyday.

Global Gifts' staff rely on a wealth of talented volunteers who actively support our mission. That wealth of talent and enthusiasm is reflected in our long-standing success as a fair trade organization, now with three stores in Central Indiana. In 2010, more than 200 volunteers contributed 13,000 hours to Global Gifts, up from 10,000 hours of volunteer service in 2009 in support of our fair trade mission.

Volunteers play many roles and perform many tasks with Global Gifts. We will match your skills with our needs to make the most of your volunteer experience. Volunteers help build displays, unpack and check in merchandise, serve customers, clean the store, work on off-site sales and more. Your work makes a difference to the artisans and producers we serve.

So often, we hear that fair trade translates into better access to food and housing, increased opportunities for education, and improved medical care for those who would otherwise be lacking in such basic areas. Fair trade provides artisans and producers hope and dignity as they gain access to new markets with fair wages for their goods.  Volunteers are essential to Global Gifts’ fair trade mission. Volunteer and help be the face of fair trade in Central Indiana!
