Global Gifts donates 10% of March 8 Sales to Threads of Yunnan!

Established in 1999, Threads of Yunnan is a project designed to raise the standard of living for women in the countryside of Yunnan China.  These women are able to earn income for their families and receive training in literacy, hygiene, and nutrition while raising their self-esteem and helping to preserve their traditional handicrafts.  The project started with 5 women and has since grown to employ 286 women from 12 villages.  Many of the women have never attended school but through literacy training have learned to write and sign their own names. 

All March 8, Global Gifts purchases will help pay for new 10 new sewing machines and 3 large traditional looms to increase production for Threads of Yunnan, which will increase work opportunities in rural villages.

I am not afraid of the water and electric bills or the children’s tuition. I can use the income from handicrafts to pay for our living expenses.
